ABOUT THE FILM
Maintenance worker by day, pro boxer by night, Jerome Conquest lives in the city of 'Rocky' and comes from one of Philadelphia's most dangerous neighborhoods, Strawberry Mansion. When Conquest loses his best friend, Calvin, to street violence, he turns to boxing as a way to improve his life and inspire those in his community.
From MPI filmmakers Timothy Blackwood and Bradford Downs, The Conqueror screened at more than 30 film festivals worldwide, winning nine awards including Best Documentary at both the Munich International Film Festival and Oxford International Film Festival.

Timothy Blackwood

MPI filmmaker Timothy Blackwood is the recipient of numerous MPI fellowships and grants and the director of the award-winning MPI-supported film The Conqueror. He is currently in production on his first MPI Original Film, Infraction, which MPI acquired from its 2020 Short Film Creative Development and Production Lab.
A Canadian-American film director, writer, and producer, Timothy has studied at the European Film College in Ebeltoft, Denmark and the University of King’s College. His films have screened around the world at festivals including the Cannes Film Festival, The Oxford International Film Festival, and Heartland’s Indy Shorts International Film Festival and have won numerous awards.
Jerome Conquest
Jerome Conquest is a professional boxer and community organizer from Philadelphia's inner-city Strawberry Mansion. Jerome has used his status as a professional athlete to help disenfranchised youth in Philadelphia. As a community organizer for over five years, Jerome holds annual Christmas toy drives, back-to-school book-bag programs, and winter coat drives for youth in need. Jerome is in the process of founding The Conqueror Foundation, which will build on the community work in his neighborhood of Strawberry Mansion and help at-risk youth and their families. As its first major initiative, Jerome plans to create a community center and boxing gym in Strawberry Mansion which will bring at-risk youth in Philadelphia into the gym and away from street violence.
