ABOUT THE FILM

During Venezuela’s 2018 economic collapse, millions fled their country in search of a future. The Art of Inflation takes place on the Colombia-Venezuela border, where two brothers, Andres and Diego, are stuck—working on a coca farm run by armed militias, trying to earn enough to escape. Andres, the younger of the two, is mute, shaped by a past trauma he can’t bring himself to speak of. His brother Diego, both protector and enforcer, walks the line between survival and control.

When Andres falls for a local girl named Karina, he begins to push back against Diego’s authority and the path laid out for them. Believing he can outsmart their circumstances, Andres takes a risk that upends their fragile plan. As tensions rise, the film explores themes of brotherhood, autonomy, and the loss of childhood in times of crisis. Told through haunting silences and intimate chaos, The Art of Inflation is a coming-of-age story set against the backdrop of economic despair—where even worthless currency becomes a canvas for hope.
